Community Outreach Team

The Community Outreach Team at McFarlin works to unite local agencies with our membership so that we may fulfill Jesus’ command to love our neighbors.  McFarlin supports various agencies financially, through donated items and service.  The team consists of McFarlin members who act as liaisons with an agency, coordinating ways to support and serve beyond ourselves.

Give locally! The Giving Tree is located in the atrium and allows us to give items our partner agencies indicate are needed by people they serve. As members of the United Methodist Church, we make a commitment to be faithful with our gifts, our service and our witness.  We also serve locally in these agencies throughout the year in single events or ongoing by making a seasonal commitment.  Sometimes the work is to actually feed the hungry, like at Food and Shelter for Friends.  Other times, the work is indirectly helping the ministry, like building maintenance, so that trained staff can spend their time doing their ministry.

Tuesday Together

The second Tuesday of every month we host dinner to build relationships between church members and our neighbors who are homeless or just needs a hot meal. Join us for prayer at 6 p.m. in Fenn Hall (or the Atrium if posted) for a wonderfully prepared meal.

Following many of the dinners there are worship services where people sing, listened to devotionals, received communion, or prayed with a pastor. There are prayer cards available that many guests fill out and return, knowing their requests are being prayed over. There is also information easily available about service times and other ministries of the church. Tuesdays Together does not just provide for a physical need, but addresses the need for community and, ultimately, for an opportunity to know and worship the Lord.

“Then Jesus said to the person who had invited him, “When you host a lunch or dinner, don’t invite your friends, your brothers and sisters, your relatives, or rich neighbors. If you do, they will invite you in return and that will be your reward. Instead, when you give a banquet, invite the poor, crippled, lame, and blind. And you will be blessed because they can’t repay you. Instead, you will be repaid when the just are resurrected.” Luke 14:12-14
