A new school year is filled with excitement, opportunity, and sometimes a few nerves. Before the first bell rings, we want to take a moment to pray over everyone beginning a new school year.
During all three worship services on Sunday, August 9, we’ll celebrate Back to School Sunday by offering a special blessing for students of every age, teachers, administrators, school staff, college students, daycare and preschool workers, homeschool families, and anyone serving in education. Every participant will receive a special backpack tag as a reminder that wherever this school year takes them, God goes with them.
This year, Back to School Sunday also launches our church-wide What If Love? journey. Throughout the fall, we’ll be exploring what it means to Be Love. Share Love. Shine Love. We believe school is one of the most important places where the love of Christ can be lived out through kindness, encouragement, compassion, and everyday faithfulness.
Whether you’re walking into kindergarten, your senior year, your first year of college, or another year of teaching and serving students, we’d love to pray for you as this new season begins.

As students here in Oklahoma head back to school, we have the opportunity to help students on the other side of the world do the same.
Through McFarlin’s long-standing partnership with UMC missionaries Pastor Umba and Ngoy Kalangwa, our annual Back-to-School Offering supports students at Wesley Primary School in Morogoro, Tanzania. Wesley Primary is a remarkable Christian school, where students receive an excellent education, nutritious meals, and the opportunity to grow in their faith. Wesley Primary School is one of the top-rated schools in Tanzania, with students consistently achieving outstanding academic success while preparing to become the next generation of teachers, doctors, pastors, engineers, business leaders, and world changers.
This year we’ve been asked to raise $23,800 to provide lunches for 104 students and scholarships for 36 students.
- $125 provides lunches for one student for an entire school year.
- $300 provides a full scholarship for one student for an entire school year.
