Lent Worship & Events

Ash Wednesday Services

Feb. 18 @ 12pm, 4:30pm, 7pm

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of our Lenten journey. We remember our mortality, name the ashes of our lives, and open ourselves to God’s promise of renewal. Grounded in the theme From Ashes to Beauty, these services invite us to begin Lent with honesty, humility, and hope.

12pm | Prayer Stations | Sanctuary
A self-paced Ash Wednesday service with prayer stations for reflection, scripture, and guided activities, including the imposition of ashes. Worshipers are invited to move through the Sanctuary at their own pace, reflecting on the ashes they carry and the beauty God longs to bring forth.

4:30pm | Family Ash Wednesday Service | Sanctuary
This service is designed especially for children and families. Children and adults alike are invited to participate together as we begin Lent, remembering that God meets us with love, even in our weakness, and is always at work bringing beauty from ashes. This service will also include the imposition of ashes.

7pm | Traditional Ash Wednesday Service | Sanctuary
Our 7pm service is a more traditional Ash Wednesday worship service, offering scripture, prayer, music, and the imposition of ashes. This service provides a reverent and reflective beginning to the Lenten season, grounding us in repentance, grace, and the hope that through Christ, ashes are not the end of the story.

Palm Sunday Service

March 29 @ 8:30 & 11am

Holy Week at McFarlin begins on Palm Sunday, March 29, with worship in both Sanctuary and Modern. This sacred day invites us into the story of Jesus’ triumphant entry and marks the beginning of a week that will shape not only our hearts but the life of our church. Join us for meaningful worship as we commit ourselves anew to following Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Holy Week Concert - Seven Last Words

March 29 @ 3pm

On March 29 at 3:00 pm, the Chancel Choir and orchestra will present John Michael Trotta’s Seven Last Words. This contemporary musical setting reflects on the final words Jesus spoke from the cross—words of forgiveness, suffering, trust, and love. Through scripture and music, this service creates space to sit with the weight of the cross and to prepare our hearts for the holy days that follow. It is a meaningful way to enter Holy Week with reverence and attentiveness.

Maundy Thursday Service

April 2 @ 7pm

Maundy Thursday invites us into the quiet, intimate moments before the cross. In this unplugged service, we will gather around the table for communion and share in the practice of foot washing, remembering Jesus’ command to love one another as he has loved us. This night draws us close to the heart of Jesus’ ministry—humble service, shared bread, and self-giving love. In the simplicity of the table and the tenderness of washing one another’s feet, we are reminded that beauty often emerges not in power or spectacle, but in acts of grace, vulnerability, and care. Even as the shadows of the cross draw near, Christ meets us with love that kneels, serves, and gives itself for the life of the world.

Good Friday Tenebrae Service

April 3 @ 7pm

On Good Friday at 7pm, we will gather for a Tenebrae service marked by contemplative scripture readings, choral music, and hymns. As we follow the passion story of Jesus, candles will be gradually extinguished, drawing us into the deepening darkness of the cross. This service invites us to remain present in the ashes of grief and loss, trusting that even here, God is at work—and that the story is moving toward resurrection and beauty yet to come.
