One Person. One $5 Gift. One Miracle Sunday for One Worldwide Church – Endowing Worldwide Theological Education
Together, United Methodists around the world will raise up new generations of clergy leaders through a one-time worldwide offering. And we’re playing our part.
The Challenge
Our church has weathered a global pandemic, navigated disaffiliation, and responded with compassion amid conflict, war, and disaster. Now, congregations are invited to embrace a renewed vision and engage in the mission of preparing 500 students annually for pastoral ministry.
A leadership gap persists in The United Methodist Church. In the U.S., 71% of clergy hold a master’s degree in theology. Outside the U.S., fewer than 5% do. U.S. seminaries benefit from significantly more denominational funding and generally have healthy endowments. In contrast, over 20 theological schools in Africa, Europe, and the Philippines receive limited support and have little or no endowment.
We can and must do better. By raising funds for The Endowment for Theological Education outside the U.S., we aim to equip 500 additional graduates each year to Love Boldly, Serve Joyfully, and Lead Courageously.
McFarlin’s Response:
On May 17, in worship, we are challenging everyone to give $5. We average over 600 people in worship every Sunday, and if every person gives $5 towards this effort, we can help set the pace for the Oklahoma Annual Conference by presenting over $3,000 to endow worldwide theological education.
Why Endowments Matter
- Sustainable: Ensures long-term funding that outlives any single fundraising effort.
- Reliable: Provides consistent support for generations.
- Impactful: Leaves a lasting legacy for those contributing to the Miracle Sunday offering.
