Project Transformation - Volunteer Reading Opportunity
June 29, June 30, & July 1 | Chapel Hill UMC
Project Transformation Oklahoma
This summer, McFarlin is partnering with Project Transformation Oklahoma, a ministry of the Oklahoma United Methodist Church, to help children grow in reading, confidence, and relationships through literacy support, enrichment activities, and caring mentorship by connecting children, college-age young adult leaders, churches, and volunteers to create spaces where kids are encouraged, supported, and empowered to thrive.
The Impact of Project Transformation
In 2025, Project Transformation served children and families across the state through camps and literacy programs that are making a real difference.
- 268 children served
- 98% of children maintained or improved their reading skills
- 36 young adult leaders served at camps across Oklahoma
- More than 4,000 volunteer hours were provided
At the Chapel Hill and El Reno sites alone:
- 95 children participated
- 100% maintained or improved reading skills
How McFarlin Is Supporting PTOK This Summer
El Reno Support
McFarlin is helping support the El Reno site by providing:
- Snacks for children attending camp
- Meals for the young adult leaders serving throughout the summer
These simple acts of hospitality help create a caring and encouraging environment for both students and leaders.
Chapel Hill Reading Partners
One of our primary volunteer opportunities this summer is serving as a Reading Partner at the Chapel Hill site. Volunteers will spend the morning reading with children during the literacy portion of camp, helping encourage confidence, relationship-building, and a love of reading.

Why Consistency Matters
We are currently seeking 12 Reading Partner volunteers to serve at Chapel Hill on all three days. Project Transformation has specifically asked partner churches to provide the same volunteers throughout the reading days whenever possible, rather than rotating people in and out. Our goal is to provide the same 12 volunteers for all three days. Consistent volunteers help:
- Minimize repeated training
- Build stronger relationships with children
- Create a more comfortable and encouraging environment for young readers
Whether you are an experienced teacher, a parent, a college student, or simply someone who cares about children and literacy, you can make a meaningful difference.
